In my last post I mentioned an article by Christopher Hitchens, titled "Stand up for Denmark: why are we not defending our ally?" At the end of the article he asked if anyone would like to join him in a peaceful support rally outside the Danish embassy in Washington to demonstrate support of free speech. Today, 3 days after the original article some 250 people gathered outside the Danish embassy to show that free speech does have its defenders. Photos and reports here and here.
I doubt it'll get much publicity, after all no flags were burned, nobody was threatened with death and the protesters seemed to be a good humored* and intelligent bunch (I particularly like the 'Lego of my free speech' sign).
Well done Washington, well done Christopher Hitchens.
*This has put me in such a good mood, I'm even prepared to use the incorrect American spelling as a kind of thank you.
Hi there,
I just popped over from ATW to have a look.
